Olympic-style school sport competition
The Government plans to deliver a 4 step Olympic-style school sport competition which will involve the following:
- Step 1 – Intra school competition
- Step 2 – Inter school/district competition
- Step 3 – County Finals
- Step 4 – National finals
In order to deliver against these plans, schools will need to be more organised than ever and that is where Active can help to plan, organise, record and evaluate sport to help develop and widen the opportunities at the Intra and Inter school competition levels of the national programme.
Step 1 – Intra school competition
More young people need to be encouraged to compete at an intra school level against other form classes, houses or individuals. Active can help to generate A, B, C and D leagues, which can be easily managed by teachers or students. Intra school competition presents the opportunity to create a huge impact: competition, talent and participation can be developed in great depth at intra school level where the logistics of transporting teams out of school do not exist. Intra school competition can be managed by leaders from within the school and will provide a fun, thriving environment. Active not only provides a clear, simple structure and format for both teacher and pupil, but also the chance for young people to get truly involved with the competition, as they can keep up with scores outside of sporting hours.
Step 2 – Inter school/district competition
Whilst intra school competition will encourage any young person to participate, inter school/district competition is where talent can be developed. Here, talented young people will compete against other young people from different schools. The issue with inter school competition is that it often presents difficulties such as, mounting transport costs, excessive travel time and finding staff to chaperone. With Active, the virtual league format has been cultivated so that inter school/district competition can occur without any of these problems. Schools can practice competitive sports within their own grounds, at a time and a place that suits them, whilst still engaging in competitive sports with other schools. By uploading the results before an agreed deadline, teachers and students can compare scores and become involved in healthy competition.
The overall aim of Olympic-style School Competition
The overall aim of the Olympic-style School Competition is that more people will take part more regularly in the form of A, B, C and D teams. The problems which need to be tackled involve space, time, transport, equipment and staffing issues which can often compromise quality, delivery and value. With software such as Active, young people are not let down by circumstances out of their control and are given the opportunity that they antibiotics online have deserved all along.
